Five Fun Boxing Day Out Activities!
| Not Found What You Want?
|
On Christmas Day it’s a likely scenario that the presents will all be unwrapped by lunchtime and the kids far too excitable to entertain. So if the idea of sitting indoors on Boxing Day with only board games or classic film repeats for amusement fills you with fear, read on! There are some great activities on offer which will not only prevent ‘cabin fever’ but could even help to burn off those Christmas treats…
1. Ice Skating
Ice skating has become a popular activity in the UK but most rinks pop up just for the Christmas period. Why not take advantage of some real ice and test your child’s balancing skills. Many rinks cater for very young children by providing penguin stabilising aids, so you can start them off early and minimise first-time fear. The best part is wrapping up warm – drag out those silly Christmas jumpers and fluffy ear muffs for all to see!
2. See a Pantomime
Pantomimes aren’t just entertaining for kids – they are a guilty pleasure for adults too. Whether you opt for a love story, like Cinderella, or an adventure tale, like Jack and The Beanstalk, the plot is sure to involve some familiar ingredients: spontaneous singing, a gentleman dressed in drag, a fair lady in trouble, a handsome prince and some form of magic. If your child loves dressing up it’s also a chance to don the fancy dress.
3. Visit the Cinema
With the Christmas holidays and the school break comes an abundance of film releases. This year’s box office favourites look set to include Happy Feet 2, The Adventures of Tin Tin, Arthur Christmas and Puss in Boots. It’s also the perfect excuse to finish those left over Christmas sweets (if there are any)!
4. Go Bowling
If your family is competitive, bowling is the ideal activity because your scores are tallied as you play. You can make the game harder by putting the lane barriers down, or by trying different weight bowling balls. Why not offer a prize to the first family member to get a strike?
5. Hit the Sales
Boxing Day is the best time of year to buy clothes, toys and gadgets as retailers offer discounts of up to 70%. If your child has had their eye on the latest games console, or is in need of a new winter coat, now is the time to buy. London offers the most extensive range of stores in the UK and Oxford Street can be rather daunting for children. An alternative option is Westfield London shopping centre which features 4500 undercover car parks, an indoor ice rink and family-friendly eateries so you can stop for a pick-me-up in between shopping.
