Cheap Package Holidays: Orlando is one of the world's most popular family destinations. Based primarily on the broad shoulders of the DisneyWorld, dozens of smaller amusement parks have put down roots in the area and turned Orlando into a child's paradise.

It is often, however, not thought of as the kind of place for people on a budget. If you know where to look, though, it doesn't have to cost you a lot of money, not least because of the range of cheap package holidays on offer through well know travel agents.

Allegedly, Orlando is blessed with the most hotel rooms of any city in the United States, so there's no lack of good accommodation, so if you decide not to stay directly in, or next to, one of the amusement parks, you'll be saving money right away. The city is easy to get around with a good, tourist friendly transport system, so you don't need to worry too much about how you get to the main parks.

Secondly, make sure you plan ahead, Disney offers discount tickets and special family rates, and it's worth looking at both the American and the British websites before you order (there can be a significant difference in price from dollars to pounds, discounting the exchange rate). If you're going to do the amusement parks, it's much better to get a queue jumper ticket and do everything well, rather than spend your day standing around in lines.

Next, the amusement parks have pretty much spread throughout the city, so you would be forgiven for thinking that just about every other restaurant is run by pirates, or medieval knights, but it's not actually the case. Whilst the themed restaurants are a lot of fun, you also pay a little bit more for the experience, so if you've got a package deal, eat in the restaurant.

On a similar note, take food with you to DisneyWorld, you don't want to pay for hot dogs and the like, so a quick trip to a supermarket before hand could save you a surprisingly huge amount of money.

Finally (or more likely, first of all) when you arrive at the airport a bus downtown will cost you the princely sum of $2. If you're staying in a hotel near the airport you can get a shuttle for free from the airport. If you want a taxi you're looking at around $40 to downtown and $60 to DisneyWorld, and a shuttle will cost around $20 per person.

All of which goes to show that you can take your kids on the holiday of a lifetime, without breaking the bank, it just needs a little planning ahead.
